Ghlims'Kurch'En
In the dark one morning, the Bloated Black Beast slowly rose to the water's surface. Whence it crested, great gouts of flame erupted from its Misshapen Form and were hurled hundreds of feet in all directions. It dove again, and appeared as nothing more than an Inky Shadow of Malice. With no purpose, It swam on; occasionally cresting and flaming, but still without purpose.
Ghilms'Kurch'En , The Flaming Blot
Long ago, when the Demon Lord Akxx'N'Kurch forged the flaming blade Kurchyynwraize on the lowest layer of the Blood forge, an Evil residue seeped into the mortal realm's ocean. It took the form of a shadow and abhors the light granted to mortals by the Gods. Ghilms'Kurch'En is that residue. A black soul among the wakes of life, it hungers for firey destruction and smoldering death. The beast combusts in a ferocious way when exposed to air, and uses this as its primary means of attack.
Life of a Flaming Blot
Ghlims'Kurch'En lives, if you can call it living, in the seas to the north. It seems to enjoy beaching chunks of itself on top of icebergs and letting the flaming goo melt them over time, destroying the habitat of some animals. Many adventures to the Northcap are interrupted by Ghilms'Kurch'En as it seeks to destroy the truely living.
Ghlims'Kurch'En occasionally leaves the icy region in search of prey. About once every 7000 years, on the day of its creations, Ghlims'Kurch'En goes on the hunt. It will seek out and attempt to destroy ships with its volatile body.
The Purpose of Ghilms'Kurch'En
The Infernal Tide, Ghilms'Kurch'En, is a big nasty beast that is nigh indestructable and rarely encountered. This creature should mainly serve as a means of destroying an major artifact (Such as the flaming blade Kurchyynwraize) or acquiring a powerful spell component (To give that Fireball an extra kick).
'FIRE!!'
Summer may be winding down (in most places), but the fires of imagination still burn bright.
Thousands upon thousands of years ago, role-playing was invented by our ancestors. Long before the first wheel rolled down a hill, and long before the first loaf of bread was sliced, early humans sat around their caves regaling each other with tales of gods, creatures, heroes and villains, and entertaining themselves with impersonations, play-acting, and role-reversals. All this was made possible by the roaring FIRES inside their caves, which warmed their bodies, roasted their meats, and shone light on their faces.
This month we celebrate FIRE and Role-Playing!
'The Quest revolves around the element of FIRE. Water, Air, and Earth need not apply.
Items, Locations, NPCs, or Plots. All are welcome as long as FIRE is involved! Don your asbestos suits and enter with us, into the all-consuming inferno that is this month's Quest!'

Typo alert- 2 'ins' being typed as 'is'. 1st one- 2nd last line of 1st paragraph. 2nd one- 1st line of 2nd paragraph under Life of a Flaming Blot.
I think my vote is the essence of my comment- 'Good solid idea. Nothing fancy, just a great, useable, quality submission'
Somehow, though, it reminds me of global warming. Maybe in the fantasy world, melting of ice in Arctic isn't due to global warming but rather to Ghlims'Kurch'En!
Good for when the PCs need a huge monster to fight.
Can't say I'm enthralled. It is more a kernel around which a good sub could be built.
Have to agree with Echomirage - is a brief sketch where a picture would be better. There is most certainly the promise of something better here!
I am going to go with Moonlake in that this is a solid idea and it is useable-plus I liked it. it is reasonably unique-the evil oil slick has been done-but combined with your post about it origins, I think this is something I may use.
Nice
An intelligent flaming oil spill monster. I think this is the better of the two subs, and it could be expanded, the weapon being the intended product, but the Ghilms'Kurch'En being the unexpected and potentially more valuable weapon. I could see it being an accidental discovery, and something that the infernal would certainly explore.
