Troll Belt
I like unique items, and I like to tailor them to my players. So, when they went on a mission to clear out a troll cave, I decided to make this for the wizard in the group.
This is a 'Troll Belt'. It is made from the intestines of a troll. In my description, I said that it appears that they are still wet and slimy. (I knew the player receiving it and knew he would love that. Feel free to give the description your own touch.)
If you have read my post on the Troll Gloves, you will already know a bit about Sigrin. I am not going to repeat it all here, but I will say he is a halfling Mage of great creativity and ambition. This is another item he created while completing the quest to clear the troll caves. Again the party was resting from battle. Sigrin had been standing a bit too close when a death blow was landed on a troll. Annalisa had swiped her sword across the trolls belly, spilling it's guts and, unfortunately for Sigrin, flinging a bit of them in his direction. As he began to remove a particularly long piece of intestine from his shoulder, inspiration struck. He already knew magic could be used to aquire some of the troll abilities for himself, but worried that whatever he made for himself would be stolen. (Sigrin was not the most trusting sort.) 'But,' he thought, 'Who would steal anything as disgusting as this?' Grinning, he set to work enchanting the item, pouring his magical energy in to it. (Even more then he did for the gloves. This was for HIM, after all.)
When I created them for my player, he was still at a rather low level, so the properties are not that great. But this can easily be altered to suit someone of a higher level.
Ability Bonus: +2 to constitution (Adds a small amount of health to the wearer, but only when they are actually worn.)
Regeneration: 1 hit point per round (The wearer will regain a small amount of life each turn)
Penalty: -1 to Charisma (The wearer will lose a small amount of charm, and may not be as likeable.)
It can easily be altered in many ways. It can add armor class, or even strength. The only important thing, I think, is to keep at least one point of regeneration and the charisma Penalty. Those properties are what make them Trollish.

Ewwwwwww!
See my other comments regarding the other troll items, but I echo Cheka's comment.... Ewwwwwww!
what burns me is that i worked my backside off on my latest submission all weekend, and presented 4 items in 1 entry, with enormous amount of detail. You managed to bump me off 'recent submissions' into oblivion, with 3 individual items that each raise one score a point, and allow regeneration. Ok, needed to get that off my chest. Sorry, absolutely nothing against the entries themselves, per se. :)
would you consider entering 3 very related items with short descriptions in one shot next time.
Aside from you apparent dislike of his posting habits, what did you think of his post? You voted a 2 but never said why.
good point Mourngrymn. I voted 2 because like most entries on this site these items show potential, and because I like anything made from troll bits.
p.s. how do you know its a he? :)
I've talked to him on a number of occassions. His submissions are based off of a game he DM's called Never Winter Nights. He has a website with information on it but I don't have it handy.
fair enough. Ask a stupid question.... :)
for the record, he is a she :)
Well butter me brown, I had the assumption she was a he from talking to him/ her. Oh well. I retract my statement. :(
Lets wrap ourselves in troll guts made by (insert mage's name)
Thank you, no.
I like trolls (mine is named Grumple), so I was interested in your items. Obviously regeneration and a certain lack of glamour are requisites for such 'treasures', but I would have liked some more detail in your back story, and a little more development in the items themselves. Good creative writing (you) and good reading (us) makes everything more fun. Anyway, that's my opinion. Thanks for the ideas.
Umm...because I DM NeverWinter Nights I have to be a he???
Better tell them to change my birth certificate and driver's licence then. :D
To be perfectly clear, I am a she...but that's OK. People assume I am a he all the time just for being a player and running a server. ;)
Perhaps I should take it as a compliment that ya'll think I am a he. :D
Anyway, sorry for bumping you. Did not intend to. Still a newbie at this.
And sorry the description is lacking. That is just my style. I prefer to fill in the details based on the PC getting the item so I leave it rather open until I know who is getting it.
Might think of working on that in the future...
knew it! (or at least had a feeling). And sorry for the previous whining fenixphire
For the record, I instantly thought you were female.. Not sure why.
Well actually Murometz, she has fallen prey to the three post folly, which is simply stated: if you put all your Ideas up at once, then you don't have any constructive criticism to work with for any of them. If you space them out a little, then you get feedback from the first post in time to improve the second and third and so-on.
Nobody- that makes a lot of sense actually.
The idea behind the item is a good one. It makes sense. It is however poorly executed. Punch up the description some, make the sections 'flow together' more, and change the into box (it is not about the item and detracts from the post greatly (put that text in italics at the bottom of the post if you have to keep it).
This also sounds like a 'classic enchantment', something that would be 'on the books' but not regularly made (kind of like a ring of spider climbing or boots of squeeky floors). You should write it up from that angle.
Vote to be boosted when you edit the post.
Its the name CP. I don't know why, but the name gives her gender away. At first I had not read the name, and I thought she was a man (cause just about everybody it) but then I read who posted it and immediately realized that she was in fact a female. Maybe it's the misspelling of Pheonix (really awesome creature by the way) that gives it away... I don't know.
OK. So about the post (had to get to that eventually). Add names. I realize why you use '(insert some famous magic user name here)' but it is already assumed that DM's will change the names to protect the innocent.
And why a troll's intestines? How does a trolls intestines make it easier for a mage to enchant? does he have to cast a less potent spell? Why not a normal ring. It would obviously sell better. And before you go replying to me about how yes it does make the spell easier, don't tell me in the comments...fix it. I need to see why this item is the way it is in the post.
Sonce you are new here, and I support new people on the site, I will give you a better grade...not really, that was just a joke.
But seriously, this has some potential, but it needs that potential to be filled.
Updated with a back story.
Ok... some better information.
However, try to avoid this.
If you have read my post on the Troll Gloves, you will already know a bit about Sigrin. I am not going to repeat it all here. . .
People may not have read your other posts. Put the information in again. Do not copy and paste but tell it in a different light so that each time they read one of your submissions with this character they gain one more piece of information. That way it seems almost required to read them all so you can get a real good grasp of it.
Also, detail this character out as an NPC so we can get a good understanding of who he is and what motivates him.
Now I am begining to really like this Sigrin fellow, he's sick in the head and resourceful. 1/5 improved to a 3/5
'As he began to remove a particularly long piece of intestine from his shoulder, inspiration struck.'
that line alone does it for me! 3.5/5
revote
Great update
I like the idea of the trollgut belt, perhaps as an orcish invention.
