Corvus
Before the county of Corvis, there was the Wizard Corvus. Thirteen hundred years ago, a mad powerful wizard had an estate in the area that became the county of Corvis. Over his 800 year span, he created thousands of magikal items of various types and power level, some of which survive to this day.
Special Equipment:
Several dozen powerful magik items of his own creation. See the items listed below as guides.
Appearance:
Corvus was the original. He created the archetypical wizard appearance... white beard, wrinkles, robes and pointy hat. His eyes, they shone with a blue madness.
Background:
The early history of Corvus has been lost to the sands of time. He perfected the art of mystical creation to a degree never seen before or since. It was said to drive him mad. In his insanity, he created thousands of magikal items ranging from reality altering orbs to simple glow balls. No matter what item he created, it was always a little odd; a firewand randomly lit candles and lamps it is near by, magikal weapons that require times of peace before they can be used again. The examples are endless. It became his trademark.
He retired to a country estate where he created most of items. The area is still called Corvis (The modern corruption of Corvus) to this day. One day, his tower went voop and everything in it... including parts of Corvus were spread to the corners of the world.
Roleplaying Notes:
Corvus is not a character. He is a part of history. He is a reason for magikal items spewed in unlikely places across the world and the source of all items of intense power.

Almost abandoned it as one of those over-powered characters. But as a background... good!
...source of items of immense power, but all are somewhat quirky. A good trade-mark, and history. If you find something powerfull, you almost immediately expect there is a catch to it.
Maybe, it was not a single wizard, but a group of them madmen, this detail was just lost through the centuries. Would explain how a single man could create THAT many items.
well when you have 800 years of time to kill.
I also assume that because of his madness he discovered a way (a technique or process) to create items that no sane person would discover. He could probably kick out an item that would take others years, in a week or two. And he did have 800 some odd years to kill.
It also does explain the reason why the items are not always 'right'... it is a side effect of his process.
I have updated his entry, to include all the items that he made that I have posted so far.
This is cool, a background character that influnced history. But I wonder, what did he influence beyond just magical items? How is Corvis the area effected by him. Maybe people is Corvis are afraid of Wizards after 800 years of Corvus the Mad. Or maybe they are great dealers of magical items. Myabe Corvis is the center of a mage guild because of the area's connection with wizards.
That is a good point. Other than the round lake where his tower once was (voop), I had not thought of any other impact. I guess the people in this area of the world would be excellent glass blowers and crystal workers. Corvis is not quite in the middle of nowhere, but you can get there from there. Perhaps I better make a land of Corvis.
If you're really into Corvis as a place and you want to explore what you can do with a place that has a history centered in such a dynamic character then you could create Corvis the setting. It could be a nation in a greater world, a peninsula perhaps.
Ok, nevermind, I see that you did that. Sounds cool, I like it.
I thought about the impact this one man could have on a world. Especially given the legacy of the Orbs. I have been tinkering with a world where you would have epic forces in conflict, with Corvis as part of the back story and that Light and Darkness are now in a clash... lead by two orbs.
For those who don't want an epic campaign, Corvus is an excuse for having thousands of magik items spread randomly all over the world. The Voop dispersed magik items everywhere in the world 1300 years ago.
Why did he live for so long in the first place? And is anybody sure that he really did die in the voop? Perhaps he is still alive, finally driven over the brink of madness because of the voop and now wandering without knowledge of his past years but somehow with the skill of enchantment still active. Perhaps he is still creating on a lesser scale somewhere without really knowing what he is doing. He could be creating some even wilder magic that only a very few scholars would recognize as his work.
Several of the Items would of assisted this. Silver Star and Staff of the Black Magi do come to mind, but there could of been others.
Hm, I think its time I post on this character. He's somewhat legendary around the citadel :P
I love it :D Corvus is the perfect explaination for any item that you just can't think up a background for - I might have to use him in the future ;)
Obviously, he is not a character designed to be played by anyone, and if he is still alive, rarely should he be put in any roleplay - but he can be mentioned many times in any roleplay ^^
5/5, of course.
Excellent background character. Leaves plenty of room for things to pop-up out of nowhere.
It might be feasible for Corvis sighting rumors to spread. A crazy man in ragged robes with blue eyes spouting inanities in the middle of the street might fit the description of a crazed Corvis. Maybe give him an orb that glows slightly whenever someone shouts around it.
This popped up as a newly commented submission, but nobody commented. Wierd.
Maybe this site is so advanced that it can SEE INTO THE FUTURE, and it knew you would make that comment before you even did yourself.
Where are all the Orbs gone, where are they...
I remember well the hours spent tinkering and chatting about just one topic, the Orbs and their interaction. Fond memories.
(Side note: You can create a Scroll for the minor orb items. I remember we have created quite a few back then.)
I thought I had. Okay, let me look up some of the old ideas and I will do it in the next few days.
Done
This is definitely one of the Citadel's best post-clusters. While Corvus himself is bland, the sheer volume and variety of Orbs makes him worthwhile.
4.5/5
I harbour no enthusiasm for this character. IMHO he is fairly bland and somewhat cliche. However the orbs come into play. This post is a central hub for all the orbs and thus Corvus is also representing those:
2.5 for Corvus
+1.5 golden bonus for the Orbs
=4.0
The pure joy of the orbs also give it a Hall of Honour
The original mythic submission.
Wow! Quite the collection of linked objects...
He is the central hub of a number of items. Each item was created by him. He is known mostly for his Orbs, but he made a few other things.
He has multiple metagaming purposes.
1) The Voop is an excuse for magic items scattered about the world.
2) The Orb theme allows for easier creation of notable magic items. See Swords. Why does it always have to be swords? artictle.
3) He adds versimiltude, as the Great Mage made most of the world's great items. See a magic orb? You know Corvus probably made it. He adds to the history of the world. It is nice to actually know who created the big items.
4) The Orbs themselves are also Power Players in the world. These powerful immortal items have their own agendas. Their presence shapes the world. This can be used directly, or as an example for hower powerful things shape the world.
