Well of FireGems
These are artifacts of an earlier age. The Wells are symbols of a great power, that of the Eternal Flame, now lost to Humanity.
Or is it?
A Well of the FireGems is not a deep hole. In actuality, it is a stone altar.
Each Altar is two stides across and one stride tall. It is octagonal in shape, as the eight sided shape had a symbolic significance for the Order and the Dragons. Each side is covered with a large glyph surrounded by smaller ones in a language that is lost to the Mortal World. The top is covered with a pattern of similar glyphs. In the center of each Altar is a Fire Gem. It sits there waiting for its Worthy to come and remove it.
They are made of a light grey stone that is practically indestructable. There was said to be eight of them, but no one is sure. No one currently knows where any Wells are. Most of them are assumed lost or destroyed, as the Order's temples were destroyed. There is a small temple in the Hinterlands, dedicated to a god of light, that is using a well as an Altar. The clergy of the diety are unaware of what they truly have, though they are aware that it has some connection to The Order.
Magical Properties:
Each Well creates a FireGem in the center of its top. That Gem is unremovable except by it's Choosen Worthy. Once they touch it, it falls free, and they (or anyone) can pick it up. Soon after the FireGem is removed, another appears and awaits its next Choosen Worthy.
There is a ritual allowing a stone to be removed by someone else. That person is then compelled to find the Stone's Worthy Choosen (and given an ability to roughly sense that person). That ritual is currently lost.
The Well can be used to communicate with Dragons and call them to the Well. Under extraordinary circumstances, the Well will teleport the Dragon from where ever they were in time and space to the Well.
Any Oath sworn while touching (or in proximity too) to the Well is binding. Those involved are compelled to abide by it. Thus the Order's normal oath of fealty and honor are kept by the riders.

3/5 because of the sketchy appeance. It would not be difficult to use it as a template. The general idea on the main site, however, seems to be to provide a thorough background (for the item, as well as the organization).
In addition: there is too much of an 'Excalibur look and feel' about the item for my taste. Altars are cool and invaluable, but these have been seen before in other incarnations. (The aforementioned Excalibur (in its stone), the Dragon orbs of Krynn/Dragonlance(resting on their altar/pedestal), etc...)
And we disincline against swords because we have seen them before and they are cliche?
These four posts are best seen together. Any one, by itself, is fairly useless. It is is only when seen in combination that they make sense.
:)
I must admit that a sword is prone to getting lower grades from me, exactly because they are so difficult to make original. I think there are very few swords that has not already been made in a 1000 incarnations.
So such items lose their 1 point for originality. The last point (4->5) I reserve for truly spectacular items.
Nothing wrong with a 3. I just stated why I voted as I did. I hate when there is no feedback to an item. Everyone ought to get feedback.
This Piece, like a few others, requires back story. The four posts put together are really one entry - accessible from four directions.
I need to write up the NPCs associated with the Order of the Flames post.
Holding off vote for now - perhaps this bumb will trigger the unification of the subs! :)
Interesting if typical fantasy device but, well, too vanilla. This needs editing and a rewrite before I'd even give it a vote. Of all the related subs, the fire gems were the strongest in this regard, but it still doesn't make these entries seem any less plain. Needs another pass.
