Torch Axe
This is it. The one that started them all. The very first flaming weapon.
The Torch Axe appears as an extremely old, battered battle axe. At the top of the 'shaft' of the axe, between the blades of the axe, there is a small receptacle filled with oil and tinder. When the oil and tinder are lit, the flames spread from the receptacle onto the blades of the axe.
It was created thousands of years ago by dwarves, who came up with the idea of a flaming weapon by watching weapons come out red-hot from the forge. As they could not always be wielding red-hot weapons, the dwarves decided that flaming would be the next best thing. So they went to the elves and asked them for help, and when the two peoples were finished with the 'Torch Axe', as they called it, they had the first ever flaming weapon.
Magical Properties:
No fancy magic words or willpower to light this flaming weapon. You have to do it the old-fashioned way. At the top of the 'shaft' of the axe, between the blades of the axe, there is a small receptacle filled with oil and tinder. When the oil and tinder are lit, the flames spread from the receptacle onto the blades of the axe.

Fun when the character gets hit with a fire ball or runs through a burning house to save a baby or any other 'hot' encounter when the carrier might not think about what he is carrying. Put him in a situation where he is trying to save somebody in a burning house, is the first on the scene, uses axe to enter building, axe fires up, person trapped dies, character excapes holding burning axe, town lynches him for murder. That is a little cruel, but you see the fun I am aiming at.
My party used to have the same kind of problem with a necklace of fireballs....
Any time it gets hot, the necklace needs to do a save as well... Fortunatly for the wearer, it made the save everytime....
Here you do have the option not to fill the axe with oil, which would just reduce it to a normal axe.
In my world, the greataxe variety of this thing will appear in no time. (I see a hobgoblin wielding it alreayd)
Very good. 5/5 for being non-magical.
*does a happy dance* I like this one.
An interesting idea... perhaps those bladesw of lightning must be charged first as well, and Venom Blades re-filled, and Sunfire Swords left in the sun, preferably in the tropics :)
4/5
It's great to have a non magical flaming weapon.
This needs to be added to the mundate weapons codex. So I am
Simple, but really good.
