Lore:

Failed - They're a tribe of lizardfolk who live in Tir an Nathracha, grow feathers out of their heads, have giant claws, and they only eat elves

Basic - no idea, mate.

Regular - no idea, but sounds like something that would be around here somewhere, maybe the inner city?

Good - sounds like a myth, maybe check one of the libraries, or academies?

Superior - Something, something, defenders of the Gyre? Probably serious, or no such thing exists. You might find something in Master Adan Creydan's Surveys of the Gyre, or the Gardens of Memories, I think there is a copy in the High Lord's library.

Epic - The Gardens of Memories has several depictions of the Terraskin, or Tarascon, both spellings are used. They are accorded the elite soldiers of the Gyre and are only accorded in legend. They are what dragonkin are to dragons, but to the great Terrasque itself. Giant golden terrasque-men, living weapons.

Legendary - The Garden of Mnemaglyphs has a great deal of information on the Terraskin, though Tarascon is the proper term for them. They number seven, and they are the secret and silent guardians of the Fortress at the Heart of the World, and have free passage through the Gyre. They were created from the essence of the Terrasque and the blood of Ancient Men. Himiltrud, Renburgis, Idasgarda, and Aregund are female and depicted as having breasts. Marcomir, Chlotar, and Pacatian are male and depicted with large exposed dangling members. Each of the seven bears one of the Holy Treasures of Terrasquestone.

Pacatian carries the Holy Sword

Himiltrude carries the Holy Rod

Chlotar carries the Holy Staff

Renburgis carries the Holy Stole

Idasgarda carries the Holy Ring

Aregund carries the Holy Miter

Marcomir carries the Holy Crown

Appearance:

A tarascon stands ten feet tall and has the noble bearing of an elfin lord packed into the golden-scale armored body of a terrasque-human hybrid. The scales on their upper body and legs are large and durable, while the scales of their underparts and belly are smaller and smooth. They are still formidable protection, as they count as magical creatures and cannot be harmed by mundane weapons, and are immune to acid, fire, and lightning magics. The head is decidedly more monstrous than humanoid, and they have animal-like jaws filled with teeth, small eyes, rudimentary ears, and slit-like nostrils that can flare open. They do not speak, but can hiss and roar.

The female tarascon have relatively large and obvious breasts, but no nipples. They do not have an visible vaginal cleft despite being nude. They can be differentiated from the male tarascon by having more fine features, a more lean musculature, and the afore mentioned breasts and the lack of anything dangling between their legs. The female tarascon are formidable fighters, but are specialized into magic users rather than melee fighters.

The male tarascons are more bulky and craggy in their appearance, and as mentioned above, have large frightening looking male genitalia. They are almost exclusively centered around being melee fighters with their bodies being the only weapons they use.

Thrown Object as a hill giant, usually rocks, but sometimes they use the fallen or even still living creatures or heroes as missile weapons

Hammer Strike - focused attack to destroy a shield, piece of armor, or shatter bones

Basic Bite - chomp

Rending Bite - chomp with head twist and pull

Origin and Purpose

The dungeon core in the heart of the Gygaxian Gyre existed during the height of the Old Empire, when dungeons were captured and exploited as power sources for a high thaumaturgical civilization. It also saw that civilization end, and the myths and legends those ancients had, and lost. The best way to prevent itself from becoming either a victim of dungeon capture and repurposing or just outright dungeon devastation was to have proper protocols and contingencies. The Tarascon were created to be the guardians of the Alcazar at the Heart of the World, where the dungeon core is held, and where its avatar and its harem of Dungeon Champions lounge, plan, and play their games of seduction and romance.

The Tarascon were created by blending human and terrasque essence, that simple. They are not a living race, just seven artificial beings created hundreds of years ago when the dungeon core was much more paranoid about its level of vulnerability. In the middle years, it was concerned that as its power grew, more and more powerful heroes would appear, smash its defenses, slay its champions, butcher its avatar, and rip it out to turn the core into a bauble, or slave engine. It created many other defensive contingencies, like the Four Divine Guardians. These cost essence to keep awake and active. The Tarascon were active exactly one time, the divine guardians never once, and the essence cost was deemed too much. The guardians were buried and placed in a deathless slumber as the ancient races are capable of. The Tarascon were turned into stone, and slumber eternally.

That isn't to say they are gone. Far from it. The core can return them to flesh in a heartbeat. If there is a threat, a serious one it has time to prepare for, it can make more Tarascon.

The Nanur Scrolls, taken from the library at Zizrigal Castle tells a time when the Great Golden Beasts shall walk from the Shadow of the Great Destroyer as the Heralds of its coming. Most consider this to be just more prophetic nonsense, but those of a more learned perspective believe this portends that the Terrasque will be awoken in the sidereal month of the Tower, and that the Tarascon will rise and lead the beast to its destination. Normally this would be a vague foretelling, but the rest of the Nanur Scrolls describe the beast destroying everything in Cridhedun before ascending the central peak of Tir Athach, the Axis of the DungeonVerse, to wreak destruction and devastation there, with profound and terrible consequences.

Hosts of Tarascon are described, and the Divine Guardians appear in a verse speaking of the domination of all Cridhedun.
