Mask for the Theater of Cruelty
Will the mask smile for you or frown? Do you know who you are? Do you really?
Full Item Description
It is a silvery mask of the kind worn to an upper class fancy dress masquerade ball. The light silver mask is in the style of the classic drama twins (comedy or tragedy). It is comedy mask - the smiling one. The eyes and mouth are obscured by a black gauze that can be seen through. It ties easily around the head and hangs comfortably.
Magic/Cursed Properties
The magic is subtle. It takes three solid presses in a row on the mask to activate (it could be done accidently but.....). If the mask is smiling it will copy the face beneath the mask, the base face. The mask will still smile until placed upon a target, and pressed three times against their face. The mask will then frown and the target\'s face will be stolen and they will have the copied face once the mask is removed (eventually the hair of the target will become the color, length, and style, of the base face's hair). The stolen face can be taken by donning the mask and pressing it three times (then the mask will smile again).
A marvelous tool to impersonate someone. A horrific tool if you don't know what is going on and accidently activate it.
Keep in mind, there is only one copy of a face at a time. This is not a duplicator, it is a swiper. So you need to keep your victim alive, if you want to get your face back.
History
Another enchantment that has been long known, but is morally questionable. Normally these items are a demonic gift, (give a soul, get an item), but they are in many an grimoire of a cultist.

A very, very nice idea with a huge amount of potential. Would give it 4 or even 4.5 if it had a backstory. (I realise posts like this have been transferred from the threads and that's why they don't, but as they're in the main site now I'm voting by those standards).
Backstory: Someone gives a demon a soul, usually not their own, to get a magic item to change places with someone. It is a somewhat more unique take on an Evil Cultist's impersonation tools.
Really keen idea that could benefit from a good backstory, but the gift from a demon seems a bit...cliche.
Most of the items in the Garage Sale from Hell were inspired by the Friday the 13th TV show (Highly Recommended). Thus they all come from a Dark Celestrial's Touch. The poor mortal who somehow 'earned' the item will need to vary from scenario to scenario. (This item is something from a Evil Cultist, who asked his Dark Lord for a certain 'boon' to do its will (usually for x number of souls). It was a 'bought' item.) However, since they are garage sale items, they are two or three owners since their 'origin'.
Ive always wanted someone to do a magical threature mask.
Nice and nasty...
I like that this is a face swap and not a face copy. I feel like it needs a backstory about its use in a theater that eventually became infamous as the theater of cruelty. Perhaps this item has a twin mask, the tragedy one, which when it is combined has a sort of special effect. There could be a constant struggle in the seedy underground of the theater to try and hold both masks.
Now if this was a single item, then I think your idea would be perfect. If these were artifacts or spontaneous enchantments, then that is a perfect way to go.
This one is not a unique item. It is part of the "Evil Cultist" spellbook, passed on by Evil Magic User to apprentice (or person who steals the book). There are dozens, if not hundreds, of these out there. Evil Cultists need their tools to do their dirty work.
