Egg Cup of Summoning
This looks like an elaborately fashioned wooden egg-cup, but it is a powerful magical tool, used mainly by witches to conjure up spirits and familiars.
A black wooden egg cup, very hard, smelling a little of charred wood. It is resistant to fire (it needs to be: see magical properties) and and it is delicately carved with relief images of fruit and vines and other fertility symbols.
Magical Properties:
An ordinary egg is inserted into the egg cup of summoning. The cup is placed in a lighted hearth and the egg slowly begins to warm up. Incantations are read, and powders thrown onto the fire, and the egg will hatch into the summoned creature.
Addled eggs produce deformed demons or chaotic familiars. This can be troublesome.
Double yolks produce twin familiars, and larger eggs naturally yield larger summonees.

This item gives the magic of summoning a very 'Ye Olde Medieval England' feel.
I likes it!
I love this idea! Maybe certain eggs are better for summoning certain familiars. Maybe unusual eggs could produce different effects for the summoned creature, like a snake egg giving it a scaly armoured skin. Frog eggs, shark eggs, fish eggs, spider egg sacks! Ohh wow, that could be cool. Swarms of tiny, posionous, eight legged familiars, oohhhhh hooooo.
I like that familiar idea. A swarm of spiders... cool.
I also like this item. It is functional, realistic, and has a sense of basic style. All in all a very nice item.
Neat!
Bigger eggs won't fit so nicely into the Egg Cup, they must be carefully balanced (a simple cheap string would spoil the ritual).
So what happens if you finally get that dragon's egg, and in the middle of incantations it falls? Something horrible I guess...
Most delightful! That is how magic is to be done - not with the wink of a hand, familar, come to me, be my slave, but with tradition, ritual, song and incantation!
Makes the familiar feel special, too...
Nice variation of the summoning circle, more conceable too.
But can you still eat an egg from it?
4/5
You probably could, if one does not eat near a hearth or near any heat source.
Someone remind me to put this in the 'Garage Sale from Hell' thread.
2 words:
ooooooooooooooo pretty
Incredibly cool idea with an absolute potential for a 5. Still it is all too short and just a sketch really, so I lowered the score by 1 point
All of the above
But will take small issue with AG
Some ideas are just so good that they just don't NEED a lot of detail
This is one
5/5
That is why it received 4 and not 3. There is alot that could be added to this post. Alot.
A matter of opion I guess - no critisim intended AG
Someone tell me to enter this code into the Garage Sale from Hell thread once it passes over to version 2.0
Found by accident. Suggested into the thread. BUMPed this great item.
This reminds me of Russian Fables. Love the visual!
This is how magic should work.
I agree with both points. Its a gem of an idea, and at the same time a little more would have been great, putting this over the top!
4.5
Very nice idea. Maybe if you eat an egg from it, you can get possesed by the summoned demon. This would make a nice gift for the hidden cult to give to the young heir of the king...
Nice - a great item to give to an NPC mentor, one not too put out by the occasional demonling brought into being with it.
