Arrow of Personal Hell
A magical arrow made by a evil group whose meeting place was in a dangerous old forest. They called themselves the 'The Circle of Hell'. This group included members of varied skills and racial background but were dedicated to one thing, the summoning of hell's highest mountain to our home plane...
This arrow, sometimes refered to as the 'Touch of Madness' since survivors tell tales of a piercing pain followed by burning you couldn't see and the terror you felt when your screams of agony seemed to make no sound. Thes people were shrugged off as lunatics by decent god-fearing folk. Little did the world know that 'The Circle of Hell' was attacking anyone who came near the woods searching for its famed treasure that to the dissapointment of 'The Circle' never actually existed. They use these hellish arrows because the knowledge to make them was a gift from great demons who wanted passage to the world so they could rule it. The arrows cause fire pain, blindness and deafness therefore putting the victim in his/her own personal hell.
This story has been turned into a nice adventure as well.
Magical Properties:
Fire Damage: Deals no damage (feels like it does), and the flames are invisible, use standard rules for catching on and putting out fire.
Blindness and Deafness: Moderately hard to avoid (Probobly an above average save would be required) It's really up to you depending on what game rpg this is being used in. The duration is probable around 5-10 mins.
The arrows are always completely destroyed after being used and do not leave a wound.

Can I suggest you write a better set of description please. This is an okay item that I almost ignored because of what you put in as the description.
Perhaps tell also, who does use such an item? Is it freely available, or does a special organisation use it?
Maybe it is publicly marked as 'evil', and outlawed, so the PCs may have to seek it covertly. Or have to meet their user... and survive.
Seems a pretty expensive item, as the save DC's are pretty terrible.
I do ponder on the duration. I can hardly imagine they cause lasting blindness and deafness. I would assume that this would be based on the spell used and thus from the DC I can derive the caster level.... ehhr no, I still need the Inteligence or Charisma bonus of the creator.
As I see the DC's, I assume this was D&D based?
I need to put in the obligitory plug that this is not a D&D specific site.
That said I actually like the item. Perhaps to aid those not familiar with the D&D 3.0, you could describe the difficulty of avoiding the blindness and deafness. Like 'Very hard' or 'Easy'.
I could see using this item as a way of hunting down rouge that refuse to join the guild. They would send out an ambush team and snipe the lone rouge, making him an example of what happens when you defy the guild.
I have nothing to say here that hasn't already been said.
Hope to see more of your stuff, dude!
I appreciate all your comments seeing as how I'm new to the site and always open to tips that can help me out... And yes i realized this was not a Dnd speficic site and i would have used terms to apply it to other games but i was a) half asleep and b) i havent played many other rpgs, Ive played Dnd and a little Palladium so i apologize for any confusion caused by my lack of thought. Thank you all for your support and critisism, it helps me out alot. Any tips on what a good description could be? I also meant to put in a duration but forgot.
I fixed it! Yeah!
Good job on the remake, dude! Let's see more of your stuff, yeah?
Thank you all once again.
Great corrections. Keep up the good work.
I think I would make the arrow dissappear on impact. Hate for anybody else get their hands on it, not to mention it opens up more possibilities.
I would also make this cult, while not peaceful, not wanting kill anybody either. Thier lot in life would be to put the fear of hell into others. They would have successfully caused fear of their area for all that go near it catch the stinging hell of their arrows. I would say that they would also go out on 'missions' where they would go out and search down certain people to shoot them with the arrows. The group would probably make awesom assassins if they ever chose to actually kill anybody, but their mission, and perhaps promise to the demon that gave them the power, was to cause pain in the world.
The arrows could make normal people appear possessed and cause a Salem Witch Trial type thing which may be their purpose. They could cause high ranking people to be distrusted because of a sudden madness, especially if the cult ranged farther then normal where nobody has heard of these arrows so the witnessed results would be a mystery. A whole village could be inflicted...
Lots of possibilities for this cult and item and lots of results that could come from it. Would like to see a write-up for the cult.
These suggestions would have really improved it.
Thank you for updating it.
Actually Strolen, we could leave this item alone and make another arrow that would do the effect you suggested. Arrows of Madness perhaps?
P.S. Yes, I know it's an old topic. MEH! Leave meh be!
There is nothing bad about bringing an old topic to the fore again. If you have an idea, write it down.
Sometimes, we call it simply a BUMP!
So I've been told by Moonie whenever I do so. ^^
Please do not call me Moonie. Ever. Thank you.
*blinks, then nods* Aye. Will (not) do.
Like the idea Pieh. If you added more background (for example something like what strolen wrote about) it would make it even stronger.
Bump, i like it and I think revisiting older posts jogs the memory.
Hey Pieh,
I felt bad about knocking your rock jacket so I went and looked up one of your other submissions to see if I could give you a bump there. At any rate I looked this up and I can't believe these people gave it such high ratings. After all Moonie made the post a couple of weeks ago about vote inflation, and how we shouldn't just be nice etc. My point is that this arrow which causes the illusion of pain and then disappears is nothing more than a standing spell or temp. curse. It lacks style and the context and the back story is weak. I don't see how it is in game use could further roleplaying.
I love some of the other stuff you have done, and I am sorry this is not one of them.
NCN
It was pretty much my first submission... I guess I could revisit it. Back then there just wasn't as many high quality submissions, so stuff like this got pretty good votes.
As for the 'rock jacket.' I'm sorry you didn't like it, I think a 1 is a little harsh, but I can live with it. I'd just like to thank you for going out of your way to see what else I could do.
I think the idea here is good - perhaps a bit lacking in polish, but for an early sub it is good.
I wouldn't bother with blindness or deafness - just running around feeling like you are on fire would be enough for me.
I would love to know more about the adventure you ran using these arrows.
Neatly done.
