Wisenkin
The Wisenkin is an unusual, expensive, rare, and terrifying weapon for the CE
Appearance:
The Wisenkin is a two-handed double-bladed battle axe. Each blade features a hyperedge. What makes this devastating, beyond the fact that it is a power-armor-sized melee weapon with arcanotech edges that are both superheated and dimensionally 'vibrating', is that the two sides of the axe are separate and are keyed to different frequencies. Thus, when the melee fighter swings and finds the blade glancing off of a phased armor, or parapsychic shield, they can reverse their blade and swing at a different frequency.
The axe has a seven-foot-long handle and is two inches thick across the shaft. The shaft itself is made of the same reinforced material that battlemech chasses are forged from. The haft contains multiple power cells, as well as optional links for power armor suits to hook it to their main power pack. The blades are each the size of large pizzas, and when activated, the hyperedge portions of the blade shift and scintillate through an iridescent rainbow of colors.
Functionality:
The Wisenkin is an assault-grade melee weapon. Swinging it requires greater than normal human strength. (If avg str is 2/5 and 5/5 is extreme bodybuilders and strongmen, using the wisenkin requires a str of about 8/5). Thus, this weapon is limited to power armor troopers, extreme muscle augments, cybernetic commandos with strength builds, and physical adepts who can channel their parapsychic power into superhuman strength, durability, and speed.
Damage:
Unpowered, the wisenkin is still the same as being hit with a battle axe the size of a stop sign but made of ceratanium (ceramic-titanium allow). If it doesn't cut armor, it will still smash armor joints and cause serious blunt force damage. If powered, the blade can cleave through power armor with ease. Armored vehicles offer little more resistance. Battlemech armor, with its thermoablative composite, make, and simple thickness, can resist a wisenkin, but only for so long. Given enough time, a trooper with a power axe can take a mech apart. This is certainly more power than a normal axe has, and would also easily exhaust the power cells of most power armor suits.
In melee combat, a trooper with a wisenkin is a horror to behold. The blade passes through unarmored men like a breeze through a screen door. Against other power armor, it lops off arms and legs like a raging butcher. A skilled soldier can hamstring a mech, and when it topples, he can make called shots to inflict criticals against a dropped machine. This can be as minor as smashing a hand or foot actuator, or as serious as a called shot to smash the blade through the cockpit and split the pilot like a grape, with varying levels of difficulty. This is not a sure thing, because most heavy mechs with hand actuators can typically grab a power armor trooper and either crush them like an insect, or failing that, throw them up to their cruising distance. (A mech that can walk 4 hexes a turn can chuck a footsoldier four hexes)
Usage and Limitation
The Wisenkin is a big ass double bladed battle axe with a glowing rainbow edge for hacking bitches up into chop suey, The largest limitation is that these weapons are EXPENSIVE. For the cost of a single Wisenkin, a squad could equip a half dozen hyperedge gladiuses (short swords) or three regular hyperedge blades.
Legendary Wisenkin
Sacred is the best known Wisenkin, and it has been equipped with a hypersphere, or a glome. The hyperdimensional object acts as a power source so Sacred has infinite power, and can actually power a trooper's suit rather than the other way around. Sacred deals double damage, half is the regular damage of a wisenkin, the other half is thermal. For lack of a better term, Sacred is a holy engine powered THASER axe. Things hit by the weapon aren't just cut, they are set on fire.
