The Witness
Feu'mer the inspector was quite adept at his work of solving and preventing crimes. He was known for a very sharp eye - and not the one remaining eye that was in his head.
'Are you sure nobody can see us?'
'Yes, of course - we are in a locked room, my friend. The only thing that might see us are mice in that mouse-hole over there.' Axinar laughed softly, then slid a small parchment over the table to the other man. 'Slaying dust. Enough of it to take out an entire courtyard of men with just one well-made throw from a building.'
*Crash!* The locked door smashed open, and through it came two halberd-wielding guards, who stopped just before the men. Thinking quickly, Axinar uttered a word, and the packet of dust burst into a stream of flames, vanishing harmlessly from existence. 'What is the meaning of this!?'
The left guard rose the halberd up to just beneath the first thiefs chin, 'You are under arrest for conspiring to kill.'
'But how is this so? There is no proof!'
The guards both laughed softly, before the right one spoke - 'We have an... eye, witness...' The guards guffawed as they lead the people out. And as they were ushered out, a third man entered the room, reaching a hand in the mousehole and taking what seemed to axinos like a large marble, from it.
Fue'mer had lost his left eye through an accident - he ran through a bush when young, and prodded it out on the sharp sticks that it contained. But now in his forties, the man prefers his lack of an eye - because he had seeked the help of an old mage, asking him to imbue an item for him which would allow him to get his perception back again. The mage linked this magical glass eye to Fue'mers life force, so that it would give him vision out of it. A bonus of this eye, however, was that it could see whether it was inside the mans skull or not, so that it could be placed discreetly wherever he wanted it. Of course, it was only natural he became a spy from then on - it was too good NOT to. Fue'mer is reported to have died by falling down a flight of stairs, whilst his glass eye was removed.
Magical Properties:
The Witness is a glass eye which, if imbued for the person, can give another sight, as though he had another eye. Creation of these items are extremely difficult and thus very rare and oftimes extremely expensive. The eye cannot hear, taste, touch or smell, only see. It can be placed anywhere and if it is within half a kilometer of the owner, it is able to still see clearly.
What is the detriment of this item?
Imagine how disorienting it would be to have one eye looking forwards, and another looking backwards. You would have no depth perception and would be constantly confused. It is highly recommended that one stays still whilst the eye is not within their sockets, or they have a high chance of falling - even to their deaths, like Fue'mer.
If someone steals this eye and throws it around, juggles it, plays marbles with it or whatever, one section of your vision would be spinning wildly, whilst the other section would be perfectly stationary. This is enough to often make one extremely disoriented, and even to vomit. So one must take good care of their eye if they use one.

...maybe Fue'mer was _helped_ down that stair, I think...
A very interesting item, with good limitations. The creation process must certainly involve the individual it is made for.
Surely it is expensive and hard to produce. Could an existing eye might be 'adopted'? It might have little flaws, though... like seeing occassional ghostly images from the former owners, even from their deaths...
That would be an interesting idea. Also good for seeing if there was foul-play in the deaths, if others can see the last few moments of their life.
A nice side effect would be that someone who was holding the eye could see the owner *grins*
Hmm, I dont think that would work. But an idea stemming from THAT idea is, perhaps someone holding the eye gets the vision from the owners OTHER eye! So if the holder recognises the surroundings, he could know where that person is. :) Nice.
5/5
Eye think this is well done.
A neat idea!
This one has been around a while :)
