The Lohra
Sun haters and child snatchers they may be, but you can't deny their fashion sense..
Full Description
Of all the various demons that exist, the Lohra are easily some of the most and repulsive to behold. Giant toad like things that stand at a height of five feet and gaze at everything with their horrid bulging eyes , they possess no front limbs and keep leaking excretement and other waste matter from a permanently gaping rectum. Sometimes in desperation, they will attempt to halt the flow with their ribbon shaped adhesive tounges but soon give it up, realizing that it is a futile endeavour. The only thing one could call remotely refined about them are the stylish black kimonos that they are invariabally clad in, and the elaborately carved masks that serve to conceal their grotesque features. Hewn out of willow, the latter are often carved into exquisite visages of beauty that might almost seduce a casual onlooker were it not for the eerily empty eye-sockets and fixed, hollow smiles.
These odd tendencies towards refinement and elegance stem from a bygone time when the Lohra were the most beautiful and elegant of demon kind. It is a lost age they remember with both pride and misery, paying tribute to that cherished period when all would gaze in envious awe upon them.
In the distant past, Hurasai, King of the Lohra, upset the mighty demon lord, Ukuhalrst or Ruler of the Desolate Shore, as he gathered with the other lesser demon lords to pay homage to their mighty overlord. Ukhuhalrts had just eaten a heavy meal and belched, just as he was about to praise his subject lords and nobles for their loyalty. This embarrassing faux pas was politely ignored by the other subject demon lords, but the waspish tounged Hurasai did not only refrain from whispering an impolite joke about the digestive problems of the Lord of the Desolate Shore, but also had the audacity to playfully speculate if it had something to do with his famous impotency.
Tragically for him, the keen ears of the Lord of the Desolate Shore picked up every mocking word of it. And he was not amused. With a roar that shook the cavernous audience hall to its very foundation, he cursed the arrogant king of the Lohra and his people, transforming them into the mishappen monsters that they now are. Then he cast them from Hell to the mortal relam since thay had shown themselves unfit to reside there any longer.
The Lohra now lurk in streams and rivers, daring not to leave them till the sun sets, for fear its merciless rays will scorch their soft moist hides. When night falls over the earth and smothers everything with its dark embrace, the Lohra hop out of their watery domain and begin calling out to children wandering along the river bank who have lost their way, in the sweet comforting voices of their mothers or grand mothers, tricking the unfortunate youngsters into walking slap bang into their slimy embrace. Village elders and story tellers say that the Lohra are sterile and need to abduct mortal children and use their sorcery to turn them into little Lohra in order to prevent their race from dying out.
There is one thing that can stop them from doing this to the children they capture though. The Lohra are extremely partial to rice cakes, formerly having enjoyed this delicacy in the mad halls of the demon relam. If a Lohra is offered one of these on the condition that he do anything and everything that the giver demands of him,he will greedily agree, heedless of everything but the delicious treat that awaits a mouth and stomach that have been forced to adjust to a tasteless diet of fish and frogs.
Thus, if a Lohra accepts such an offer from a child that he abducts, he finds himself compelled to let that shrewd youngster go. Never will he break his word, out of some misplaced fear that the sun will know of his treachery and burn his slimy green hide off his flesh should he attempt such a thing. Fire and loud explosions are other forces that hold great fear for the Lohra , scausing him to squeal and cower in abject fear if he so much as sees or hears a fire cracker go off. Truly, even a little child could makes this sad excuse for a demon his slave if he wished to. There are many who say that this has actually happened, with smart youngsters owning entire posses of grovelling Lohra slaves.
Additional Information
Any young child with the misfortune to encounter a Lohra, is immediately grabbed and swallowed by the demon. Passing out almost instantaneously through the gaping rectum, he undergoes a rebirth of kind as the monstrous transformation quickly overcomes him. The vile intenstinal juices of the Lohra have seeped into his skin, and now quickly proceed to leach his human beauty from him and replace it with their demonic essence, leaving him an exact replica of the abombination that abducted him.
Though unable to capture a human's beauty for their own, all Lohra are determined to disfigure it wherever they see it. Hence their fondess for children who while young enough to mourn their lost comeliness and grow up into embittered adults that vow to inflict a similiar fate on others, lack the maturity and courage to abandon their new family and strike out on their own.

A demon that I feel sorry for.
Ah, I remember them from an old scroll. If you require demons for your world, you need also some of these, just for the weirdness factor.
Just curious, who are the prettiest demons now? This definitely makes a good twist on the classic 'child eating monster.' I am confused why they are so easily manipulated, though, is it part of their punishment?
They are left in misery, a truly deserving fate for a demon, especially one as vile as the original Lohra sounded. Nice touch with the kimonos.
A demon race tortured by a demonic curse. Fascinating.
The demons probably would wear delicate masks made with great artistry. (I see them in a Japanese style). The kimonos probably have sleeves with mock arms in them. Perhaps a tiny child (tortured and traumatized) is on their back puppeting these mock arms).
I would think the children would be used as 'hands' rather than just eaten. Then they could be slaves of the demons (before they get the rice cake and become the slaves of the human).
Their society is probably one of ritualized civility. Politeness and image management in an attempt to cover up their retched reality.
This one inspires me I guess.
Of course, how do these creatures steal the kids? Do they just swallow them whole? (of course, maybe demonlized children fall out of the rectum... becoming their slaves).
I like how the demonic society is pictured as a sort of evil mirror of 'polite' human society- with its own ritual codes and elaborate social graces.
Good stuff.
'I am confused why they are so easily manipulated, though, is it part of their punishment?'
Indeed, it is. Back in their hey-day, the Lohra were master manipulators dedicated to using their arts of decpetion to consolidate their power in hell. When they were cast out, the Lord Of the Desolate Shore was vicious enough to rob them of their cunning and replace it with an almost child-like fear of the unknown.
Moon-Hunter, those are some good ideas. I think I'll incorporate them.
As the Lohra were reborn when cast out from hell, so are the children cast out from the Lohra's bowels in their own rebirth.
What a twisted demon.
So cruelly appropriate. A beautiful shell fronting for a twisted monster.

Maggot, the rectum thing is rather creepy. Jesus Christ, just imagine the trauma that would be inflicted on a ranger if one of those things randomly sat on him! I can see it now:
"John! There you are, man! Where were yo- oh, gods, you're covered in crap! How'd that happen!?"
"Okay, you know how the village down the road had a lot of children disappearing?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, I hid in the woods to see if I could catch the guy, right? Sat there camouflaged for at least a couple of hours- BIG-ASS LOHRA SAT ON ME."
"Oh, crap. Rectum-first?"
"Better believe it. Had to cut my way out with a hunting knife: which melted, by the way, since THEIR VERY S*#^ IS APPARENTLY ACIDIC."
"... So, uh.... What's it like in there?"
"... You don't want to know, Steve... You just don't want to know."
Still, I love the idea! 5/5.
Oh, one more thing: What did the Lohra look like BEFORE their fall from demonic grace? You never mention that, and I refuse to accept the idea that this hideous monstrosity could've EVER been considered to be the most beautiful type of demon. I just thought of a quest: the PC's are trying to rescue children from a Lohra, which has, unfortunately, proved too strong, having hired large numbers of mercenaries. Their only hope for finding the kids is to help find a cure for the Lohra's debilitating curse. Another incentive is that the Lohra in question, who is female, claims the once she takes the antidote and regains her beauty, she will gladly marry one of the PC's (after all, you said the it was the CURSE that made them ugly).
You're absolutely right, angryscotman. Prior to their fall, the Lokra possessed an unearthly beauty. Much like elves or some of the lovelier fae, they would have somewhat resembled humans, with the only visible signs of their non-human origin being their flawless, mesmerising beauty and eyes that were an unsettling yellow in colour. Apart from those minor differences, the Lohra were once six foot tall humanoid beings with black silken locks and exquisite faces that would have tested the skill of even the most accomplished sculptors to replicate. A look from one of those beings would have easily reduced a human of either sex to a state of naked, hopeless desire.
