The Kingmakers, Session 8
My players continue to do things instead of infiltrating the party...
The Cast:
The Heir, Sylvie Blackburn: The words of her player 'She doesn't start fights but she'll end them' describes Sylvie very well. Raised by the Historian Morano, she is a fairly well-rounded young woman- if a bit fiery and naive. Morano is both proud and frustrated with her headstrong independence, although he's really only frustrated when she's being snide with him.
The Spy, Valen Aventura: A compulsively-lying kleptomaniac who hopes to someday gain political power in the land- if he can stop pissing off important people and organizations long enough to actually get any work done.
The Drunk Blacksmith, Ruz: A superb worker and craftsman, Ruz has an appreciation for alcohol that is tempered only by his resolve to stay out of other people's business.
The Blind Girl, Adriene: Ruz's adopted daughter. Blinded in an accident in the past, Adriene takes a constant dislike to Ruz's alcoholism.
The Huntress, Bretia Faulkner: Preferring the company of most animals, especially raptors, to people, Bretia makes a living hunting and training falcons for local nobles in the area. She's very skilled with animals and taught Sylvie how to use a bow.
The Ranger, Althalos Yerel: Convinced that trees speak to him, and that trees never lie, Althalos is a very talented warrior. However, the trees do not actually talk to him, he just believes they do.
The Witch, Rowena Foxglove: The local witch doctor, Rowena recently took over the position from her now-deceased mentor. Rowena is an adept healer and spellcaster, and a huge flirt to boot.
The Disgraced Captain of the Guard, Albert Nash: Removed from his post due to the actions of his prior second-in-command, this character wants revenge for the disgrace he has suffered. Is a very capable fighter and administrator, and did a good job of leading the guard while he maintained his rank.
The Heir Pretender, Reginald: <-Just click his name, it's a link.
The Retired Historian, Morano: The now-reclusive historian has raised Sylvie since her birth, and now hopes to place her on the throne. Captured as of the end of session two.
Gameplay
Ruz finished the order of weapons on the Frond estate. During the day, he managed to learn quite a lot.
Frond is a very hard master, and many of his staff fear or hate himHank fears for his safety and is looking for another employerClara, a cook, would poison Frond except she doesn't have the knowledge to do soRuz also was there when the courier, Frederick, dropped off Frond's most recent payment and instructions
The others fish for more information in town.
- A young noble, Briar, is staying the night at Fortune's Sugar. The owner, Anneth, refuses to let them talk to him, fearing they will scare off one of his wealthiest clients.
- Sylvie, getting prodded into a burst of insight from The Blade of Intuition, realizes that Dalzell is likely connected to the assassination plot.
- They also learn of the Courier
- Rowena hires honest John to track down the movements of the mercenaries Frond has hired
- Bretia gets her armor repaired and polished/prepared for the party
- Valen fails to forge a letter requesting the presence of a bard at the party- Frond hates entertainers
Albert also recieved a letter from the Capital:
'Albert,
Things in the Capital are currently a mess. The last surviving Prince, Treavor, is currently in a coma. We're unsure if he will survive. A debate is forming about the succession crisis should Treavor die. We keep hearing rumors of a third, illegitimate heir, but as of now none of these have been confirmed. A few nobles have taken the opportunity to strike at one another given the chaos. These arguments are proving troublesome. The Royal Guard is currently keeping the peace- barely. Without the King, they're currently autonomous, and will likely have a great influence over whoever ascends to the throne. The search for the assassins seems to be running into difficulty. I will attempt to keep you updated, please let me know about your whereabouts so that I may contact you.

XP- What my players learned:
Bretia: Today I learned what may well be Valen's backstory!
Ruz: I learned that focusing on my main character can make things alot more easier on myself
Valen: I learned that Frond is a heartless dick cheese and wishes don't affect doormen.
Sylvie: Today I learned that Honest John's name isn't Honest John for nothing!
Rowena:
Albert: What I learned is Drunk npcs like to hit on people regardless of genders and Dalzell is a prick.
XP- Giving XP to other players:
Bretia to Valen: I give my XP to Zed for his discovery about Frond.
Sylvie to Albert: I'll give my point to Albert for finding out more about the capital
Valen to Bretia: I give my XP to Bretia for her bird's sweet Squirrel toss
Albert to Sylvie: I give my point Sylvie for helping to question the NPCs.
Rowena to Ruz: I'm giving a point to Roi because he's the only one left (all of his play was separate from everyone else)
Ruz to Rowena: I give mine to Kim cause she was very enthusiastic about using her 'gifts'.
XP- MVP:Rowena
