The Beekeeper's Hat
It is said that the metal cap of her beekeeper's hat has a magical substance found in enchantment devices.
Full Item Description
The beekeeper's hat has a lightweight dented metal cap with a wooden brim. Attached to the brim is the silvered mesh covering.
History
Nielada Hawtrey was a shy, but pleasant mature woman. Though she never married, she was never short of friends and family checking in on her several times a week. She had a small honeybee farm just outside Highmark City that she started on her own based on her passion with bees. Although the honeybees had no domestication, Nielada still had some remarkable rapport with these simple creatures. She provided honey, beeswax, pollen, and royal jelly to significant customers within the city as well as anyone that stopped by her establishment.
During one of her routine inspection of the hive box frames, Nielada fell and hit her head on a rock. Thought her beekeeper's hat was made of metal around her cranium, the force of the metal hitting her head was stronger than anticipated. Nielada did not die, but she suffered significant brain damage to the point that she is unable to run her farm anymore.
It is said that the metal cap of her beekeeper's hat has a magical substance found in enchantment devices. The denting of the cap triggered the magic and then "took" Nielada's knowledge of bees as well as damaging her.
Magic Properties
This hat is able to command nearby honeybees and bumblebees to do the wearers bidding. There is a 25% chance of enchantment on wasps and hornets.
Plot Hooks

*The PCs stumble across the farm and the new owner (who has discovered the power of the hat) gives them an irritating welcome.

Poor her. A handy hat to have.
A good explanation and background for a fairly simple enchanted device. Nice work, Stephie. :)
An interesting item, with a clever backstory.
Nice little item. I would say that the power comes more from unfortunate Nielada, than from some magical material... it is always the mind, that shapes things to a purpose. Perhaps, as she laid there wounded, fearing she would die, she wished to pass on something to world... and she did.
(Completely aside: Stephie, did you read your PMs?)
Just got to it. Sorry!
Very nice and atmospheric. It is refreshing to see someone who isn't evil commanding insects to do their bidding.
Great item! Keep 'em coming!
