Guilds of the Water
The Clan is the original unit of social organization for the people of The Known World. Humanti society is becoming more diverse. The Guild or professional organization is taking the fore in the Known World. Except on the Sea.
SeaClans: The six seaclans are Dolphin, Gull, Ray, Kraken, Shark, and SeaDragon. These totem animals serve as mascots rather than any deep symbol of the clan. There are eight to ten families in each clan. These seafaring organizations are filled with land based saliors and fishermen as well (some of whom are adopted into a clan). The Sea Clanners mosly ply the seas and deeper waterways. They function like guilds for the sailors and fishermen on Secondland and Thirdland.
In the deepsea biomes between Firstland, Secondland, Thirdland, and Forthland, these are wetfooters. These people live on large floating rafts- human made islands, as well as vessels of all varieties. These wetfoots never set foot on land (or only do it for a few hours at most).
Rat Clan: This guild is nominally related to the seaclans. The Rats ply the rivers and marshes of Secondland and Thirdland, as well as do longshoreman work. The seaclans hold the self proclaimed 'rat clan' in contempt and the officials see them as just a Guild of River saliors and longshoremen with a funny name. The Rats hold their title with pride and will take it out on anyone who gives them grief avout it.

While I like this I think it is sketchy and needs more work. Thus it gets a 2.5 as it now stands. Future work on this will surely be rewarded when I notice change has been made (unless it is a major catastrophe, but you do not normally create anything like a major catastrophe)
Perhaps this should be worked into a larger scroll?
It is part of a codex of a larger codex/ scroll (Folio?). All the Arth subs are usually freestanding as subs of their own. When the setting system goes live, there will be much Arth out there and supporting links to it all.
I know this was written before the Age of Stubs, but now that this new era has dawned, this sub is a stub if I ever saw one.
Until Strolen allows stubs to be attached to codices, I can't change this into a stub without losing some linkage.
I think stubs can be attached to codicies now.
I too would like to see this expanded upon somewhat, it's got potential to be a really good piece
