Cloak of Wailing Misery
A cloak that turns all those who look at the wearer into a quivering mass of tears.
This cloak is subtended by a silver frame that spans accross the shoulders. The cloak is made of a shimmering DEEP purple material that you would think is black. If looked at closely one would be able to see pale shapeless moaning faces moving around on it constantly. The cloak emits a soft morbid moaning and wailing sound so it is particularly unpleasant to wear.
Magical Properties:
The magical property is to make anyone who looks at the wearer feel so depressed that they could fall to the floor and burst into tears.
The curse would be that the wearer feels the same if not worse and has to listen the maoning and wailing all the time.

Hmmm, everybody is in tears around this cloak. The wearer feels the same if not worse...
The result of this would be that everybody is simply crying in a certain radius around this. (Seemingly making it impossible to do something else as Cry)
What is the 'fun' in this item?
Why was it crafted?
What is it's use?(After all, someone must have had a purpose for creating it, or was it just a magical misfunction?)
It could really need a history.
And what is the curse? I know, it makes you cry. But unless it is one of those cursed items that cling to you forever (until removed), you would simply throw it aside.
What if it makes you 'only' depressed, but you do not know the source? And everybody around is also down...
Ohhh no, not another Monday...
You could say that it was harvested from the skin of the horrible Sadsack Demon of the Fourth Circle of Hell, and that all who look upon it are forced into visions of Will Ferrel in a too-small leprechaun outfit, dancing.
Even that would be better than a pointless curse, and it would be more original too.
Just reading this item makes me feel as if I am wearing it. Boo Hooo Hooo! Why must such badly planned items be submitted?!?
*Sob*
There is now a way to make this item logical, and give it a background!
Truth is, it was created during the first boom period of the Chalice Bearers. The records do not make it clear, whether it was commissioned by the Maidens, or someone intending to replace them - it is only sure it was a costly failure. Making the viewers sad worked well, much better than desired in fact. Making the wearer feel bad was definitely not the plan.
Since then was the cloak safely stashed away somewhere... or maybe not. :)
Classic 2.0 really, I kind of like it.
The first comment that comes to mind is what would happen if the cloak was put on a dead body? Would that be enough to instigate the magic, or would it just be a magic cloak on a cadaver? Short and sweet too.
Agreed with Val.

This cloak would be a big hit at funerals.
