Adaleer's Reflective Quiver
'...and thus it was said that Adaleer the Blest could reflect the true nature of any soul. Now some of his followers believed that his ranger gear, as much a part of him as his faith, was also so blest.'
- Dauneth, Lore Chronicles
Full Item Description
Adaleer's Reflective Quiver appears to be a simple leather quiver. Made from boiled black leather, it is thickly lacquered and shaped into a wide oval, able to carry about two dozen arrows. A simple sturdy lid fits snugly over the top to waterproof the interior. On the bottom of the quiver is a small round gem.
History
Adaleer the Blest is well known in ranger lore. A faithful adherent to the Church of Divine Water, the austere Adaleer once knelt beside a sacred reflecting pool for six years. It is said that afterwards, he could see own reflection in every creature he met, understanding them as deeply as he understood himself.
As Adaleer explored the wildlands and converted more to the cause of the Clear One, many began to look to him as an oracle or saint. Everything he touched, from his personal equipment to discarded utensils, were considered by some to be sacred. After his death these items became even more prized. To ensure that Adaleer could be honored by all, the priests of the Church preserved his war-gear in a temple as relics. Eventually, the Church of Divine Water lost favor with the people and the temple was ransacked by members of another faith. The saint's relics were scattered throughout the world.
The few remaining adherents to the Clear One were disappointed to find that the relics they recovered seemed to hold no divine inspiration. Really, the only thing of interest was his quiver which had a rather queer, color-shifting gem built into the bottom. Its purpose was unnoticed until someone thought it wise to actually use the quiver to draw arrows from...
Magic/Cursed Properties
Adaleer's Reflecting Quiver appears to have taken on the quality of its previous owner. When worn, the quiver can detect the true soul of its wearer, whether they be lawful or chaotic, good or evil. In response, the gem on the quiver shifts color and adapts any arrows placed in it to reflect the user. Those unaware of the quiver's properties may be surprised to see the plain oaken arrows they had placed in the quiver are no longer the same when drawn.
By examining the color of the gem, one can detect what the quiver reflects in the user's soul.
White - Pure as snow, the gem appears white when a truly good soul wears the quiver. In response, arrows pulled from the quiver will be made from white oak with dove pinion fletching. The arrowhead is silvered and blest with good enchantment, causing powerful damage against the enemies of good.
Blue - Faithful as the blue sky, a lawful soul will reflect a blue gem. Any arrows drawn from the quiver have a shaft of bauxite ore (aluminum), sturdy and sure as the unflexing law. The arrowheads are blunted, but give a firmer impact than a normal arrow, able to blugeon the unlawful that they may be brought to justice.
Green - Like the wildlands that Adaleer settled, souls of chaos give a viridian green gem. The arrows from the quiver appear roughhewn and with crow feather fletching, featuring a simple but sharp flint head. Although they appear unsure in flight, they will not strike any tree unless desired, making for unusual but impressive archery.
Black - The hearts of those that are evil produce a gem black as their own souls. These arrows are made from dark ash with vulture fletching. The arrow's barbs are mercilessly toothed, causing the wound to bleed severely.
No one knows the full spectrum of the quiver's abilities. There is much lore of the quiver producing a different shade of gem with different arrows, reflecting other important characteristics of the user's soul.
Red - In a few hearts, there lurks nothing but the desire for vengeance. If a vengeful soul takes the quiver, the gem turns blood red. Arrows from the quiver will be made of red oak, their heads obsidian. The arrows will only strike those guilty of grievous sin, falling short of the innocent to leave them unharmed.
Rose - There are some whose hearts fight only out of love. Souls in true love who hold the quiver will turn the gem pink. These arrows are made from red maple and fletched with swan feathers which, when fired, will turn sharply toward the direction the archer's true love lies.
Aquamarine - Some find that they have no home on dry land, but only in the great deep. Those old salts whose souls are only home at sea will turn the gem aquamarine. Arrows drawn from the quiver are carved from driftwood, fletched with large scales and tipped with shark's teeth. These arrows fire as easily beneath the waves as above; on land, one of these arrows that strikes the ground will produce a quart of sea water from the earth.
Silver - Despite the turnings of the secular world, some a truly devoted to their deity above all else. Such devoted religious souls will turn the quiver's stone silver, and their arrows made of white oak are barbed with quicksilvered points. These arrows deal divine damage on striking.

Updated: Add to the scroll other gem colors and effects!

wow, very nice! Good work, Dozus!
We're missing a red gem, I may have to add one.
Be proud, you have created the Citadel's first ever magical quiver!
I like this one! I cringed when you mentioned the four classical alignements, but you made good use of them - and left enough place for other ways of characterizing the wearer.
Since the power works for those 'true souls', I wonder what a wearer that is not particularly remarkable would get... I guess just the ordinary arrows he put in. :)
Yeah, I cringed a bit too at the alignments. They're meant primarily as an example, a template for far more exciting varieties.
I like it, it's good to have a magical weapon that is not the typical sword.
Good backstory, good effects, good submission.
Kudos Dozus.
I like it. I have several players with elf or ranger abilities. This quiver would be something that they would love. Have to think of other colors as well.
This is pretty slick. There are not enough magic quivers!
